Lightly Step

A dragonfly descends
to lightly step
on to an ancient stone
set upon a home foundation,
Wings lift to the sun
their rhythm telling cobwebs in the wind.

What is the night to this archaic wight?
Is it blackness, fear or rest?
Or restless longing for the dawn?

She leaps up and darts,
dancing to the sun, her joy inviting and infectious.

I step back,
leaning into shade
offered by an idle hydrangea.

  1. I agree with JB. And it invites me to wonder about the world from many other perspectives, in addition to that of the dragonfly. Lovely!

  2. I like this. It’s as light and graceful as its subject. Congratulations. Date: Tue, 4 Aug 2015 20:02:24 +0000.jwlbrown
